My Funny Picture

What type of people do you associate with each instrument?

What type of person do you picture when you think of the band/orchestral instruments? For me it's: Flute: Elegant, feminine. Piccolo: Bold. Clarinet family: Quiet, snobby, quirky. Tuba: bold, funny, fat kid. Saxophone family: Arrogant, sexy. Bassoon: tall lanky kid (for some reason the bassoon reminds me of basketball). Trumpet: slobbery, bold kid. Violin: arrogant to an excess. Oboe: organized, shy. Piano: organized, neat. These are just some instruments that came to mind. Of course, not everyone that plays the listed instruments are like that, that is just the vision I associate with them. What personality do YOU associate with each instrument?? Again: I KNOW instrument doesn't decide what your personality is like, there are just some associations people make, and I want to know yours!

  1. Flute: Girly girl (or guy) Piccolo: loud mouth, annoyance Clarinet: ugly and tall Tuba: Fat ass Saxophone family: agree with what you said Bassoon: Clean, neat. They remind me of school Trumpet: loud Violin: sensitive Oboe: annoying Piano: agree with what you said
  2. I agree with your stereotypes. You can pretty much pool all instruments in the arrogance/snobbery category, though. No idea why there is so much snobberiness in music, but whatever. I would add: Classical guitar: sensitive and expressive Harp: angelic, feminine Cello: serious, and focused.
  3. tuba: plain looking male or fat violin: intellectual to an extent and not "ghetto" (possibly even asian) piano: neat, intellectual to an extent (possibly even asian) trumpet: sort of average, brutish maybe, kidding around, maybe an athlete too flute: elegant, feminine, maybe a man too, somwhat intellectual to an extent
  4. Flute: Uptight Piccolo: Silent type Clairinet: mom types tuba: chubby football guy sax: overacheiver trumpet: arrogant people .... Guitar makes me think unskilled, and I don't even think my school did strings
  5. I conduct a local symphony. You have missed the personality on every one. An instrument does not shape personality,
  6. i think my second high school band was very opposite of all of these. our flutes were quiet and typically very nice and small. both piccolo players were boys, one very athletic and the other very tall and shy, i was clarinet section leader and i was basically the loudest person in band our tuba section leader was a very petite girl, maybe 5'3'' and skinny but pretty obnoxious most of the time.
