  1. long haired or short haired theres only apple head, deer head only came about because of bad breeding, they dont fit the breed standard so BYB's called them deerhead, which have longer legs and they dont have an apple shaped dome
  2. There are 2 kinds of Chihuahua- short hair and long hair. Any of the other BS descriptions you hear- teacup, micro, apple-head, cob, etc- is a sign that you should NOT buy that dog. No reputable breeder needs to describe their dogs as anything other than short or long haired. Puppy mills and crappy breeders use all those stupid words to try to make their dogs sound special when they're not. Edit: The photo is a very young tan short-hair puppy. They do not stay that small or cute, just so you know. Nor do they stay that small unless they are sickly runts that will probably die before they turn 1 year old.
  3. Long haired & Smooth Coated
  4. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A TOY There is only short, or long-haired! Everything else is either a scam, runt, or BOTH. {{...*Spontania*...}}
  5. You will love any *well-bred* Chihuahua. There are only two 'kinds'. Long haired and smooth. With Chihuahuas, the reputable breeder is SO very important. I have a little darling who was bred by a lady who loved Chihuahuas, but didn't really know anything about them. She bred for pretty faces, and small size. He is a great little dog, but, as expected, he tested positive for luxating patella ( Way too common in the breed, and found in most Back Yard Breeding programs). He also has retained canine teeth, which will be expensive to have removed. Also a genetic defect. I love this little guy, as he is eager to please and so very sweet..but I know there will be some pretty big vet expenses down the road.. If I had paid for him, I would be pretty upset with the breeder, but he came to me as a rescue, and I still love him to pieces. .
  6. There are only two types, long-haired and short-haired. Look for an animal whose parents conform to the written standard for the breed. Deviations are considered faults.
  7. It's long, but please read all of this. THAT is a runt from a puppymill. There are two varieties of acceptable Chihuahuas. Long hair and smooth/short hair. Here's the deal. There are 3 types of breeders. Responsible hobby breeders who dedicate their lives to their breed and know almost everything about the breed, their dogs, and their lines. They show and work their dogs (if applicable) and their dogs are CHAMPIONS of the AKC, Canadian KC, or the UKC. Their dogs are BEAUTIFUL and are healthier and mentally balanced dogs. Backyard breeders are average joes who have two dogs and let them mate. They know nothing about the history of their dogs pedigree, the health of their dogs, if they have the correct temperament, or if they even look like they're supposed to (most don't). They usually know NOTHING about breeding and in chi's often end up with a dead dam because they haven't done any research. Usually you'll see these people in parking lots or adds in the newspaper. The worst are the Puppymills like that in your link. They care NOTHING about the dogs and more often than not, the dogs live in tiny filthy cages with MAYBE food and water occasionally, they live in their own feces and are almost always inbred, unhealthy and completely mentally unstable. These dogs are the ones you get in pet stores, on websites like puppyfind.com and sometimes on the side of the road and in newspapers. They usually advertise "teacups" "micro" "applehead" or "deerhead" chihuahuas. NONE of those qualify as well bred dogs. Chis are SUPPOSED to be teacup sized, they are TINY dogs. Puppies advertised as teacup or micro are just a marketing gimmick to sell sick runts. Deerheads (think taco bell dog) are horrible examples of the breed, they look NOTHING like a real chi. Applehead is what they are SUPPOSED to be, if you have to advertise as an "applehead" then your using another marketing gimmick to fool buyers into thinking they're getting something special. The ONLY thing these GREEDERS care about is making money. Period. You might spend a little more to buy a well bred dog from a responsible breeder, but you will spend less in vet bills and behaviorists. They'll be bred from show dogs, they look like they're SUPPOSED to. Why spend the same amount of money online or in a pet store and pay a puppymiller when you can have a show bred dog? Not to mention the other countless benefits of buying from a reputable breeder.... Anyway, here's the link to the Chihuahua club of America. I would not buy from anyone NOT on the breeder referral list, but keep in mind, that not ALL of those breeders are wonderful and you have to do your own research into them. http://www.chihuahuaclubofamerica.com/cca_membership.htm Look through the whole website and you will learn everything you need to know about buying a chi. They're great little dogs, and seeing a well bred chi will change your way of thinking forever. Same with any other breed.
  8. There are only two diffrent coat lengths: smooth coat and long coat. There is only one size: regular Chi There are only two diffrent head types: Deer headed and Apple headed. ( but Deer head is only bred by BYB and you should avoid them, and BTW deer headed chi came by a breeding MISTAKE and deer headed Chi should NEVER be bred ) There are many diffrent coloring: Creme, white, black, tan, brown, and even diffrent colors together, such as black and white, creme and brown, etc... Dont buy from a petstore b/c they get their pups from puppymills. Dont buy from anyone claiming that they have "designer dogs", "Pocket Chihuahuas", "Micro Mini Chihuahuas", "Toy Chihuahuas", "Miniature Chihuahuas" or even "Designer, Pocket, Micro, Toy, Mini, Chis " Believe me, some people will do whatever it takes to make some $$$$$. all those people are BYB or Back Yard Breeders. try to avoid them at all costs. The best thing to do would be to go and adopt from a shelter or a Chihuahua rescue. But if you want a pure bred, AKC, etc.... Chi than you need to buy from a reputable breeder and not a BYB. even if the dogs are pure bred, AKC, etc... Doesn't make the breeder a reputable breeder. Here are the pics that you wanted Long Haired http://www.petplanet.co.uk/petplanet/images/breeds/chihuahua_long.jpg smooth coat http://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/download/213/chihuahuasmoothcoat.jpg Deer head http://www.dogsindepth.com/toy_dog_breeds/images/chihuahua.jpg Apple Head http://www.chi-mountain.com/images/sparky.jpg Creme http://www.hickorytech.net/~chchiud/cremepuff6mo3.jpg White http://www.pupcity.com/images/adpics/07049163100723_1.jpg Black http://www.caninedelights.com/images/FT439_Chihuahua_Black.jpg brown and tan http://www.justdogbreeds.com/images/breeds/chihuahua.jpg Oh and Lulubelle is a Long haired Chihuahua Look at this site.
