How do you get the cool little avatars for the display pictures?

The answers and questions the people have little avatars and i was wondering how to get one for my display picture?

3. 1st one for a pic, second for an avatar. Click on view my profile. Double click on your picture or avatar where it says change your picture.Box opens with options to upload a picture. Upload the picture from your computer, select it and you are done. Go to edit my preferences at the top right of your home page. You will see a grey smiley marked get my avatar now. Click that and you can create your avatar on the page that opens. Make sure your pulse is not set to private as that stops it from appearing,
