About drawing Mohammed/freedom of speech and expression.?
While I am all for freedom of speech I'm just wondering why draw Muhammed day is so readily accepted on facebook. I'm atheist btw. I'm just wondering what the difference between draw muhammed day (as it predominantly is about inciting hate) and say for instance 'black people are monkeys day', 'hitler was a great man for killing jews day' etc. These two would be unacceptable and immediately removed off facebook but why is this the case? I am all for freedom of speech but seeing pictures like this: http://www.eurabia.cz/dokumenty/humor/humor22.jpg and http://jeremyinc.com/images/muhammad_toilet_paper.JPG with comments like this ' are muslims angry that jews own them in the middle east so much' whilst it does exercise free speech it is mainly directly to inciting hatred. So why would 'black people are monkeys' or 'adolf hitler was a great man/kill all jews' groups be looked down upon. It would be a massive double standard if they called that wrong surely in the context of free speech? I'm getting the feeling this is just a hate group specifically against islam. It's funny because if they had a problem with the other groups i mentioned then it would be confirmed, but I get the feeling this is just a hate group masquerading as a legitimate protest against censorship. P.s the group missed the point of south park - to make a stand against censorship and it wasn't about portraying mohammed in a negative way at all. The irony is that still got censored (which I believe is really wrong - especially with budhaa snorting cocaine in the cartoon) so there was really nothing they could do - even with preferential treatment over another religious figure and a non-negative portrayal he still got censored. @first poster I didn't want to the wall of text so I assumed you would know they COULD draw him respectfully - that is trivial and the most BASIC of things to assume......and when you follow it to the logical conclusion of the page being hijacked you then ask yourself why weren't there any admins to keep it on track, well that is because if you moderate the page you will be censoring people's opinions anyway. It is impossible to say whether or not the group started as a hate group, however since it was taken down before for being a hate group with lots of offensive material it is safe to say the new one spawned as a hate group and has been ever since.

- I don't believe that "Draw Mohammed day" is inspired by hate. It's inspired by the ability to speak freely and freely express ideas. I could depict Mohammed very respectfully, and still this would not be good in the eyes of Muslims. Something about that seems wrong to me. Muslims are free to dissent with our expression, just as we are free to dissent with theirs. No one ever said that freedom of speech guarantees an audience or guarantees how they will receive your message.
- Its not about inciting hate. Its about not allowing other to control you.
- The main point of not drawing Mohammed is that Islam does not want him to be distracting. You should focus on the word of God and your relationship with God. What Mohammed looks like is not important and if you start focusing on silly details like that you're not giving your full concentration to God. They don't want to go down the path of idolatry where people start praying to pictures of Mohammed, which some Christian churches have done (pictures of Christ or Mary, not Mohammed). If you're not muslim and you go out of your way to insult muslim beliefs that you don't understand, you're just being a bigot and an asshole. You have the right to draw whatever you want, but that doesn't mean that everything you draw is right.
- "It's funny because if they had a problem with the other groups i mentioned then it would be confirmed, "Well, you see, nobody got death threats for posting " black people are monkeys' or 'adolf hitler was a great man/kill all jews' " They took the criticism. They didn't say "DONT DO THIS BECAUSE I DONT LET YOU!! " Of course it is immoral to do these things but they shouldn't be punishable by death. It is worse to force your beliefs onto others than to criticize like that.If they believe that all the people who made fun of Muhammad will go to hell, then why not just let there god take care of it? Of course some Muhammad pictures really were insulting but the point is, we have a right to express ourselves. Phrases like"black people are monkeys' " were looked down upon because it degrades an entire group of people, drawing Muhammad isn't degrading a group of people. If you degrade one person like Bush for example, then its acceptable.
- It was inspired by South Park Creators and other Cartoonists or Artists that are tired of being threatened. The muslims insult, criticize, and ridicule CHRISTIANS. There are countless drawings mocking the Christian faith, religion, and Saviors GOD and JESUS. No one threatens muslims for doing this, yet they go to the extreme of death threats if someone non muslim draws muhammed. The artists are entitled to their freedom of speech. The artists are not in a country that says they can't draw him. The muslims need to get over themselves. Every religion has been mocked with drawings from Christianity to Buddhism to Jews, to any other you can imagine. The muslims are just trying to add more time to their 15 minutes of fame and force other countries to live by their rules.
- It is true that Muslims are forbidden from making drawings or depictions of prophets such as Mohammad or Jesus or Moses. I as a Muslim would not expect non-Muslims to abide by Islamic rules. However, the vast majority of those who participated in the "Draw Mohammad Day" made drawings with only one intention: to insult Muslims and Islam. You might as well called it "Curse Muslims and Islam Day". Yes it is freedom of speech to curse all you like, but it will still be childish and wrong human behavior. It is understandable that Muslims will get offended from such behavior. I personally just pity those who bring themselves to such a low level.
