My Funny Picture

What is wrong with my fish (pictures)?

So just recently I moved my female betta (Lily), and my male guppy (Jake) to a bigger tank after they had been in a 5 gallon for about a year. They are now in a 40 gallon with 5 rosy minnows, 2 more female betta's, 2 more guppies, 1 angelfish, and another fish I can't remember the name. I recently tried mating Lily with a male betta and gave up after he tore away some of her fins because I really liked how hers looked. I put her a tank with Bettafix for a week to heal her fins, and then put her back into the 40 gallon. Now, I have noticed Lily, Jake, and one of the rosy minnows is acting weird. Sitting in one spot, hiding behind trees, floating near either the bottom or top and never coming out like they used to, and Jake sits on his tail. I don't even notice that Lily is eating like she used to and her fins have just started fading their color and they are all acting weird. Could it be from age? Or being overfed? I need some suggestions !! All the other fish are fine, swimming around like normal and I have had them all for a month. http://i957.photobucket.com/albums/ae52/laaine20/P8300028.jpg http://i957.photobucket.com/albums/ae52/laaine20/P8300025.jpg?t=1284077271

  1. Dropsy. How is your water quality? Do water changes to get all parameters (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate) close to 0. Edit: Look up dropsy, she has the beginning..see the pineappling effect of her scales? I have no idea why someone would give thumbs down. If you do not fix the water quality ASAP, she will get worse and die. Dropsy is very hard to cure in later stages after the damage to the internal organs is already done. You are at an early enough stage that you can still save her! 2. well guppies and betta=dont match. the guppies colorful fins make the female betta jealous and would try to kill it, along with any colorful fish so i suggest getting a divider
  3. fist of all U R NEVER SUPPOSED TO PUT BETTAS IN THE SAME TANK THEY WILL EVNETUALLY KILL OTHERS. this may be why they are hiding, the male betta fish could have attempted or scared these current fish already .... nd if u r going to breed betta's i suggest u read from the link below http://www.aquariumfish.net/catalog_pages/bettas/betta_breeding.htm o nd NEVER PUT BETTA'S IN THE SAME TANK WITH THERE OWN KIND OR WITH ANY OTHER KIND
  4. to me sounds like ur something up with the water i'd check ur levels out could be something as simple as a single water change and or u might need to recondition the water i use this stuff called prime water conditioner works great and straightens out my tap water no problem what so ever as to ur betta she looks really healthy i don't see anything wrong with her at all my betta got his fins taken off by a puffer fish and they grew back but his color was off for a while 2 and it came back just might be stress i'd do a water test then follow it with a water change as well as change the media in ur filter and then condition the water and see if it improves my other question is what kind of filter do u have on ur 40 gallon because if it might not be putting enough air into the water for a 40 gallon tank i don't think they make a 40 gallon filter so u should have a 50 gallon or atleast a 10 and a 30 gallon filter on there i personally have a 2 30 gallon filters on my 30 gallon and when i get my 75 gallon this winter i'm gonna have 2 60 gallon powerheads on that tank so might be that they aren't getting enough air and if thats so then i'd maybe look into a air rock and air pump good 20 inch one across the back adds great feature to the tank first off as well as a ton of air into the water and ur fish will love it i have 3 airstones in my 30 gallon a 12 inch and 2 small ones causes water evaportion faster which i gotta keep up with all the time usually adding like 2 gallons every 3 to 4 days but keeps the water with a ton of air and my fish super happy but i had the same problem basically and thats what i did to correct the situation the bettas really doesn't need all that but the the other fish might and as to the dude above me don't listen to him my betta has lived in my tropical community with swordtails guppies mollies and neon tetras for over a yr and I've never had a problem with it and mines a male which are the real killers females are way less agressive just keep ur male to the 5 gallon from now on and the females should be ok in that 40 gallon
  5. your water levels may be wrong so check it that's probably the reason. and the angel will nip at Betta's delicate fins so watch for that but they don't always. ~edited~ and Jessica is dead wrong and does not know what she is talking about.
  6. Well if i remember right betta live for like 1,5 year.. If you got her 1year+ it could be just aging... Now about your other fish hiding you should watch the aquarium and see which of your fish is attacking them and makes them frightened.. Also guppy are very fragile fish. Now... Angelfish with guppy and betta is a bad idea... My angelfish had devoured a guppy i put in the aquarium and harrased the female betta i added everytime it was on its sight and the betta just stayed in the corner all the time and move a bit frightened to the other corner or to eat (so i just gave it to a friend of mine).. Angelfish usually gets well only with fish it has grown up with from my experience or fish of similar size abouts..
  7. Bettas are not use to having so much space and having company and putting a male Betta in a tank with other Bettas is a problematic. Also Angelfish can be aggressive and will eat smaller fish.
  8. It looks like it's dazed by camera flash.
