Betta fish problems What does he have? and how to treat it?
i have 2 Betta's they both live in separate tanks and they have all the same plants. i clean both there tanks the same way. the tanks are filtered and are cleaned avery 2 weeks but i change out a cup of water every week just to make sure they have clean water.... i found that one of my fish (yesterday) acting weird not wanting to eat and some dark patches on his skin....(the other one USA is doing fine nothing is wrong with him) it was really late at night so i waiting till the next day got up early to go get Bettafix( a 7 day treatment so we are on day one)... i took a quick peek today when i looked at him there was Cotton like stuff on him... i grabbed my keys and went to petsmart got the stuff came home.. did about a 50% water change and added the meds to the tank with some aquarium salt to help.... I just took these pictures now and its 03/10/2010 at 12:45 WHAT does my betta have? http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d90/Rayraye07/Fish%20Trouble/2010_0310Fishtruble0098.jpg http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d90/Rayraye07/Fish%20Trouble/2010_0310Fishtruble0102.jpg I Love Dragon Ball with all my heart and would hurt to see my good guy go so please what else can i do for him if anything please let me know asap.....

- I have two bettas too! & i love them very much,so i know this is tough for you. But first things first, you have got to change their tanks like once or twice a week, not every 2 weeks, too much algae and stuff build up. & make sure the water is luke warm, but more on the cold side. It could all depend on the type of water conditioner your using, try spring water, bottled instead. Im not sure what he has but i think its just build up stuck to him,the turning colors thing may mean hes not eating as he should, dont overdo it,their stomachs the size of their eye. I really hope whatever you do helps <3
- Could be cotton wool disease. It's a type of fungus that grows on fish, and it does seem to look like that in your pictures.
- Seems like some kind of fungal infection, take it to the vet and see if he can specifically treat the condition
- That looks an awful lot like it could be a case of columnaris - a fungus like bacterial infection which is HIGHLY contagious (even by using the same equipment between the two tanks, or even from your hands) and very often fatal. Here's another Betta with columnaris: http://www.flippersandfins.net/Images/Flex2.jpg You can try and treat it with some good anti-bacterial medication but it is often fatal, have a read here: http://www.theaquariumwiki.com/Columnaris
- try adding aquarium salt (1 tablespoon per 5 gallons) to prevent any infection and strengthen the immune system. a 25% water change and temperature of 80 degrees will also help. http://bettacare101.com
