how long does an animal have to be laying around for a vulture of wild turkey to eat it?

My friend and i were taking pics and we saw a lvulture or a big bird eating a deer so we were wondering if it was fresh or not!!! THANKS :DDD 10 POINTS BEST ANSWER!!!

  1. well, they eat it whenever they find it, sometimes it's not even dead yet, just injured. but on the other hand, if they don't find it for a few days, they'll still eat it. so there's no real way to tell hoe fresh it is by if scavengers are eating it.
  2. Vultures quickly spot dead things. they have a strong sense of smell. they also have acute vision that allows them to see things on the ground while they are high in the air.
  3. They will eat freshly killed carcasses to whale flesh washed up on shore in an advanced state of decay. One thing they are not good at is handling live prey, since New World vultures are close relatives of storks, and lack the talons of hawks and ealges. So, if a deer is fatally injured but not quite dead, the vultures would not try to feed on it for fear of getting injured or killed.
