Why do rude people online tells others to grow or get a sense of humor?

I was browsing a website and saw a long discussion like this. People were making fun of an overweight girl's picture. When people told them that was classless esp since this was a kid, there responses were get a sense of humor and grow up that it is people's fault they are fat. Well, I have a sense of humor and did not find it funny esp since it was a kid. And, grow up? Why don't people that use this realize how childish it is to blame someone for their choices ie people that choose to eat a lot are fair game? Isn't that like saying the devil made me do it? And no I am not obese. I just feel there are certain ways to say something and people should not do things like say such awful things about someone's child. The discussion I used as an example took place a couple months ago, I just saw this today.

1. Because for some reason unknown to me, westerners believe that being negative toward other people is going to motivate them, and that their sadistic behavior can be seen as hilarious. They think psychological abuse, and naming calling is comical, because no one ever taught them about the aspects of human nature, besides eminem and Britney Spears. Blame the education system.
2. I have experienced some really stupid and mean people online. It is especially bad during a presidential election. If you met these people in person, they probably would not act like that. But they feel very safe hiding behind a computer screen. Add to that the fact that many people could be high from drugs or alcohol as they type their stupid answers. There is a real prejudice against overweight people nowadays. It is mostly geared toward women. This is sad, isn't it?
3. Because these people have no idea what is funny, they only say things that they think are funny to their peers. Americans, (I am American so I have seen way too much of this crap) are the worst for it. It's so damn important to be cool and to have the approval of strangers you will never meet. They think that insulting people make them "better" than that person. I would never treat someone like that or say mean things like that. I know what it feels like to be the butt of many hurtful things like this. They never realize how much it really hurts, because they have never been the butt of things like this. If they had, they wouldn't do it. They are way to immature. That's the most annoying thing about the internet, it's just a mass of stupid and immature people thinking that they're good people for our society. And it hurts me the most when it's a child or a woman. Even worse for women because women are expected to have a certain image and are condemned for not having it. It makes me ashamed to be in the same age group as most of these people, ashamed to be in the same county. I always feel like I should apologize for them or at least try to educate them. But they are stubborn, they are the reason for society's degeneration.
