My Funny Picture

Is it weird to be a pet photographer?

I love taking pictures(Like about everyone else in thisworld) But I would love to make some money doing it. I can take pretty okay pictures of people and other things ( I wanna take a class to learn more about taking people and landscapes) But I somehow usually manage to get really cool pictures of my animals around my house. I was wondering if its weird to start off photographing peoples pets? Whats a reasonable amount to charge for something like that?

  1. ha, just look at my username.
  2. Absolutely not weird. Borrow some friend's pets, build a portfolio and go talk to some local pet stores/groomers about setting up something. I have a friend who holds sessions at a local, well known pet store chain every two weeks and makes a nice amount of money off it. She does kick back part of the profits.
  3. Nothing weird about it. I have a friend (a pro also) who shoots for a local PAWS chapter where she lives and also does pet portraits at several dog training schools. Can't say for sure how much she charges but she seems to be making a fair living at it.
  4. Not weird at all - there are a number of photographers who make a very good living doing pet portraits. Charges - whatever the customer will pay.
