What the f&@# is up with that one tunnel scene from the original Willy Wonka and the Charlie Factory?

Remember the original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory? Do you remember the catchy songs, fun characters, and wonderful designs? What about that creepy scene where Willy Wonka took all the people on the boat on the chocolate river, and then they went into the dark tunnel with the weird pictures flashing up and the strange poem Wonka read? And then afterwards none of the characters talked about the crazy boat ride? What was up with that?
