I found a foot long Lizard in Upstate New York? Pics are up, what kind is it?

So I'm out running today and on my way back home I see a dead brownish lizard dead at the side of the road in the grass. At first I saw it and I was like "no way, It must be fake." Then I see flies around it and I realize it just recently died like early today or yesterday, not really decayed at all. So I brought it home in a bag and took some pictures. Does anyone have any idea what kind it is? I've never seen a lizard anywhere near this size in the northeast. Its a brownish color, at first I thought someones pet that escaped, but its not even brightly colored or anything, looks like any other wild animal. Really wierd, here's the pictures. And its dead, not alive...some people thought it was a live lizard. They said its definately an escaped pet though Yeah I was soo confused when I found it out there in the wild

Its a monitor. Someones pet must have escaped or they realized how hard it is to care for and they dumped it. Poor thing, couldnt survive those New York Winters.
