- That cat is a Domestic Longhair, which is a cat that is neither purebred, nor a mix of purebreds. Most cats are not any specific breed, or even a mix. Cats have only been bred selectively for the past 100-200 years, so the majority of cats are still your "basic" model so to speak. His coloring would be considered Cream Tabby. ADD: Do I hear an echo??

- Well, most cats aren't breeds. If you dont' know if it's a breed, then it isn't. The only way it would be is if you bought it from a breeder. Only about 3% of the world'd population of cats are purebreds. The rest are Moggies, or "mutts". That cat in the picture is what we'd call a Domestic Longhair. (Maybe Domestic Medium-Hair...) Specifically, a cream tabby, or a red tabby- can't really tell from the picture if it's like, bright orange, or more tan. "Tabby" refers to the pattern of the cat- most of the time it'll be kind of like, tiger-striped, or sometimes spots (spotted tabby)- sometimes both! (My cat has a bit of both, haha) So...I'd call that cat a long-haired classic red tabby. =) (or marmalade instead of 'red', as a more affectionate term!)
