How do I fix the length on my TV display?

It's hard to explain what I need help with so I will show you pictures. When I plug my xbox 360 into my RCA TruFlat television, I want the screen to look like this: http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/6464/regular.png But apparently, when I cut it on, it displays this: http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/6464/regular.png Does anyone know if there is a way that the display can have a normal fit? I tried switching to wide screen but it just makes it look funny, and it still doesn't solve the problem. The same thing happens to my Wii when I plug it in. So I'm guessing it's the TV's problem. Is there a solution?

1. Well........YEAH. Get a 16:9 TV set that's Hi Def and you'll be back in business in no time...
2. Did you go to the Xbox360 settings and specified that you have a 16:9 TV? Are you using component, HDMI, or composite? Did you try to use some other format (say you use component, did you try composite?) Your TV could be overscaning, which is an easy fix if you have access to the TV's service menu.
