MSN Messenger display picture won't change?

When I change the pic then sign out and sign back in, it goes back to the previous pic I had. What could be the problem?

1. I have had this problem it can be one of three things so I will give the solution I used first use the following free anti virus software http://www.ewido.net/en/ second reinstall msn messenger. The other option is using a registry repair prog. I did however also change pic by turning to avatar and turning back to image
