MSN Live Messenger's display pictures and emoticons not working?

Newest version of MSN Live Messenger refuses to let me have a display picture or personalised emoticons and I'm getting sick and tired of not being able to get a way to contact MSN messenger team about this! has someone resolved this issue without installing older versions as I've tried to but I'm running Vista and it comes up with a pop up message about install the latest messenger. I'd rather stick to MSN as well so not refering to Yahoo Messenger or AIM etc.
