Problem with MSN Display Pictures?

I hadnt used my msn for about 2 weeks, and when I went to change my display picture, all my other ones I had saved had disappeared and when I tried adding a photobooth photo off my desktop (I have a Mac) it says that I cant cos it isnt the right type of pic, however I always use these types of pics and it has never happened before!! Whats happened and how do i fix it? And the ones that are already there, when I click ok once I have selected it, the ok wont work!!

1. To make the pics the "right kind of pic" Open the pic on Paint. And save it as a bmp file on paint. Now this pic would be able to be opened.
