My Funny Picture

omg!! is my beta fish pregnant???(pictures inside of it) HELP!!!!?

So I've had my beta fish for a while now, and the whole time I thought it was a boy. BUT I JUST noticed this weird bump on it. Like it's pregnant. I don't know if I just never noticed it, or if it's a girl and pregnant. Please, if you are like an expert or something, let me know if it's pregnant, and what I need to do!! I'm freaking out!! http://i367.photobucket.com/albums/oo118/sowhatbtq/IMG_3234.jpg?t=1223176011 http://i367.photobucket.com/albums/oo118/sowhatbtq/IMG_3236.jpg?t=1223176140 http://i367.photobucket.com/albums/oo118/sowhatbtq/IMG_3244.jpg?t=1223176164

  1. either that or it has a tumor, jk
  2. I think that's a male. He might be getting ready to make a bubble nest.
  3. Bettas lay eggs, they don't get pregnant.
  4. idk she is. I used 2 hav a beta fish and I came like that. thats how beta fish are. ik its wierd....
  5. its 100% a male betta. it has something growing, and prolly wont last too long :(
  6. Doubt it. Looks like a male. Because males are usually much prettier than females. They have longer, brighter colored fins. Females look like this http://www.oneworldinternetcafe.com/betta/betta05G.jpg and males -http://www.betta-fish-care-faq.com/images/BettaFinDiagram.jpg
  7. Your betta is a Male. It looks like it might be constipated. Give him a mushed up pea. and have his water changed. Keep it changed every few days you should notice a change Or he'll be dead.
  8. i think it is pregnant but it looks like a male it could have a tumar though
  9. Unfortunately.... it looks like your Beta has the begginning stages of dropsy: DROPSY -- the most common and most fatal Betta disease. Very little is known about it, other than it is abdominal bloating and that the tissues of Betta get filled with fluids. It is easy to diagnose a Betta with Dropsy. Look for two signs: an abnormally big (bloated) belly and if you look at the Betta from the top, raised scales. Scales will look like an open pine cone. If you see this, you are out of luck, and so is your Betta. There is no known cure for Dropsy. The fish will soon die. Keep the water clean to prevent Dropsy and any other disease.
  10. That is a male. Even if it was a female they have to have males to breed. They don't just get pregnant. They swell up with eggs though. They are labyrinth fish. It means males blow bubble nests. Then they breed and the male gathers the eggs into the nest. They are not egg layers. Hope I helped!
  11. that's a male betta and last time i checked, males can't get pregnant. it's probably a tumor or a air bubble.
  12. Your betta is a male. I am sorry but your betta either has dropsy or is severely constipated. If you betta is constipated then feed it a shelled and cooked pea. Let him fast a couple days and if you see no improvement... Dropsy is fatal 99% of the time, and by the time you notice it... it's usually too late. The best thing you could do for your betta would be to give him a water change, and make his last days as happy as possible. You could try an epsom salt bath, but it won't do much good. Dropsy can be caused by poor water conditions. So to prevent it in the future make sure your doing regular water changes. Here is a good site giving information about dropsy: http://www.nippyfish.net/dropsy.html These sites have proper care information on bettas: http://www.petfish.net/articles/Bettas/6_Ways_To_Have_A_Happy_Betta.php http://www.firsttankguide.net/betta.php I hope your betta turns out ok! Good luck!!
  13. It look to be a male that ate too much I only say that because I don't see a ovipositor, a white dot between a females' two fins on it's belly, and it has very long fins Im pretty sure its a male
  14. Chill, if your beta is female, you should be able to see a small white dot below it.Now, if it actually lays eggs, put it in a separate tank, or she could eat them.
  15. your betta is a male, that "bump" is because you overfeed him.don't feed him for a day or two.let him digest that food in his stomach and that bump will disappear. only live bearers get pregnant, bettas are egg-layers.
  16. That's definitely a male betta. His fins are much longer than a female betta's fins. Look at these pictures: This is a male: http://i37.tinypic.com/28infx0.jpg This is a female: http://i34.tinypic.com/vnjr10.jpg Either, he could be developing dropsy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fish_Dropsy http://www.fishdeals.com/fish_diseases/dropsy/ http://www.nippyfish.net/dropsy.html Or, he's just fat.
  17. Hey, Your Betta is a male :) he's cute. I don't think he's going to die or anything soon. Have you been feeding him a lot frequently? it could be his stomache. maybe change up the food portions and see what happens. My betta fish has the same problem. They really dont know when to stop eating. Hope I helped!
