how can i take pictures of fireworks with a sony a350 DSLR?
I have recently purchased a sony a350 with 3.5-5.6/18-70 lens, and a HOYA UV[N] Filter.... i am a complete newbie to photography and don't really have much of an idea how to use it yet. I will be in Hong Kong for chinese new year and would like to take some pictures of the firework display over victoria harbour. What is the best way to set up the camera to take these pics?

- Hi, vivalazhonghua!, I have taken many fireworks pictures. There are some fundamental to look out for. It does not matter which camera model. I had shot fireworks with Point and Shoot cameras before. First, you need a tripod. A remote is optional. You can use the camera timer. But be prepared to potential miss out some good shots. Second, you need to be there early to get a good spot. I expect there will be many people there, to view and to shoot photos. Third, anticipate where the fireworks would be coming from. I use manual mode. I usually set my camera at the lowest ISO available, usually 100. The aperture is between f/10 to f/13. The shutter speed is usually between 2 sec to 4 sec. To have better control the timing, I sometime use bulb mode. This is to control the amount of the fireworks in the picture. And this is when the remote come in handy. Any pressing of the shutter by hand would cause vibration. The rest will be depend on how you compose your picture and control the timing. Take as many photos as possible and different setting.
