My Funny Picture

Easiest way to edit digital photos, for fun... edit pics of myself and add a pic of a lion,etc, and sugts?

Think it would be funny to take pics of me hiking and make it look like animals are following me, etc, for fun and to fool my friends... whats the best/cheapest, perhaps free software to do this? Think it would be a blast!
