Why do people make such strange faces when they post pictures for judging?

You know, they ask, "Am I pretty?!?!!" But the picture is weird and totally unjudgable. WHY? They have closed eyes or cut off part of their face or make a face (kissy, pout, smirk- AKA retarded) or put their hair in a fringe so you can't see anything And they expect you to be objective! Is it because they think it looks sexy? Or they're afraid of an honest, unbiased opinion? Or maybe they're just sad, middle-American emo kids who need others' reassurances that they are indeed special and beautiful. Opinions?

1. I totally agree! I have posted comments about how they just look stupid, but usually I lose 10 points for that stuff. I think they think they look cool... but I just roll my eyes and laugh.

7. Kids these days think that their face, plain and normal in a picture make them look A: boring and unoriginal and B: ugly. They think if they scrunch this part of their face up, or cover this part, or cut out this part, then it will look different, and no one will be able to tell what they actually look like, and therefore be forced to say things like "Wow you're such a cutie!" It's just another emo trend that hopefully passes soon.
