- That particular shot was made using a very slow shutter speed and waving the camera around in the air while the shutter was open.
- That's just motion blur. There are two ways you could get that effect. Either they just moved the camera when they took the picture, or they used a long exposure and the subject moved while the shutter was open. There is actually an effect called "light painting" where someone holds a light and moves and writes patterns in the air. If you take a long exposure (several seconds), the camera will pick up the movement and blur the motion into a pattern. But to get that effect, you need a camera with manual shutter speed and aperture settings...like a real film camera or a digital SLR camera. (Not a digital point and shoot camera). In that picture in the link, it just looks like they shook the camera when they took the picture. I personally just think it looks like someone who doesn't know how to use a camera. But I guess it just depends on your opinion. EDIT: yeah, on a film camera, you could just set the shutter speed to the "B" setting. The shutter will stay open as long as you hold the button down.
- exactly. using a slow shutter speed is the best way. i even taped the shutter down on one of my old film cameras to extend its exposure.
