Movie directing / producing. What does it take?
I'm 17 and graduating very soon. Im good with computers and social life but for the most part VERY CREATIVE. I hear it all the time.every day..honestly. Yeah i kno what you are thinkin "This guys just like the other 3243 ppl who post a ? on here about becoming a multimillionaire just because they are creative and like TV"...I might be... but i definately wouldn't be in it for the $. Yeah $s nice but being able to display my opinions through motion picture..priceless.even if i only go the point across to 100 people.I hav made tons of short gigs. some funny some not. most suck. but yeah u get the point. Anyway..what schools are most recommended? i hear cali. is a good st. for film school but how hard are they to get in? and lets say i dont get the right connections by the time im 40 and lean towards commercials instead..is that a good job? please any info is appreciated. Oh nd 1 other quick question. is it a good idea to pursue this with a sidekik (aka friend) who has the same dream?

- My choice is Columbia College in Chicago. Regardless of the school or path you choose the main factor is you will only learn as much as you are willing to learn. "is it a good job?" Any "job" which allows you to do what you love every day is a good job. The best advice I can give you... and take this from my own experience.... Go for it, give it your best shot! Live without regret. I dropped out of film school the day I was supposed to move into the dorm. I didn't touch a camera for another 10 years. My biggest fear was "how in the heck am I going to pay for this?" Now I pay for it every day. I wake up every morning knowing I FAILED TO TRY! I very much wonder if life would be easier if I had to wake up everyday knowing I tried but failed. Do not let anyone get you down. Another reason I dropped out. If all else fails... Keep making movies and telling your stories on your own terms.... even if you are just shooting shorts on a home video camera with your friends .... hold your own premiers... enter festivals and get your clips posted on the web. Enjoy and promote your art... if your stuff is good.... "THEY" will find it. There are a lot of people in the entertainment industry whose only job is to find fresh new talent. Good luck!
