What Kind Of Cichlid Is This?

I just recently bought a 75 gallon used tank . When i went to purchase it the previous owner asked me to take her two fish as well. One fish is a baby convict but she doesn't know what the other one is. I havn't been able to find a picture of it anywhere. But i would like to know what it is so i can care for it 's certain needs(if there are any). It is 5 inches long is about an inch thick it likes to do weird swirly flips around the tank. And hide in the driftwood. It is Orange with what looks like the start of a a head lump on it's forehead. Also has some orange spots on it's dorsal fin and some white blotches on it's anal fin. Sorry about no pictures. I'm pretty sure it's not not a parrot or midas cichlid. Can anyone tell me what he is? Thanks

  1. The weird swirly flips do not sound good. This is not normal behavior. You need to test your water for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate, as well as pH. The description sounds like the red zebra cichlid (Pseudotropheus estherae). http://www.aquahobby.com/gallery/e_redzebra.php
  2. its a red zebra cichlid or a red devil
  3. try looking up flowerhorn (im not sure if thats a cichlid)..red devil...frontosa..uhh possibly a Fuelleborni....humphead...there are other possibilities but thats all i can think of
  4. It may be a Red Zebra, Jeweled African or a Red Devil Cichilid, I'm only guessing because you have no pictures up, but it sounds like it could be one of these three types I named.
  5. possibly a red devil or a blood parrot . both are orange and get a hump on their head as they mature . only male fish get the hump on their head so you have a boy fish .
  6. Probably find that whatever it is the convict will eventually kick the living $##t out of it as it gets older. Try taking a picture of it, uploading it to a site like photobucket, and post the linky here so we can positively identify it.
