My Funny Picture

Old books, need help with titles?

I'm looking for two important titles of books. They were a part of my childhood and I just can't remember anything like title or author. Its a long shot, and I severely doubt anyone will know, but : The first book is a novel with the title Chrysanthemum in it and featured an image of a little girl by a house with a dark blue cover. Its quite old and I remember reading it around 2002. The second is a picture book / kids book about all these animals fighting over fruit or something and they had a magic word mentioned. On the cover it had lots of color and some weird tree and animals surrounding it. I know, extremely vague, but if anyone remembers, I will love you for eternity!

  1. oh i know the second book you're talking about! i think its the magic garden, about this jealous giant lion who doesnt share his fruit with anyone.
  2. A really good place to ask is in the ABE forums. http://forums.abebooks.com/abesleuthcom You've got some good detail, with when you read it. It's polite to come back again and check for responses; some ask questions and never return to see if we took the time to answer! Best wishes.
  3. "Chrysanthemum" by Kevin Henkes? http://www.amazon.com/Chrysanthemum-Kevin-Henkes/dp/0688147321/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1211385398&sr=1-1 "She was a perfect baby, and her doting parents chose a name to match, Chrysanthemum. She is proud of her musical name until kindergarten, when she finds herself in a world of strange new names such as Sue, Bill, Max, Sam, and Joe--in short ( really short) a world of ordinary monikers. That wouldn't be so bad if the others--like Victoria--hadn't made a mean-spirited game of tormenting her, sending her home in tears to be comforted with cuddles and Parcheesi. Wisely, Chrysanthemum's concerned and loving parents try not to interfere, but what can't be put right by them is dealt with by lucky chance. The class learns that their popular music teacher not only has a whopper of a name herself--Delphinium--but also plans to name her expected baby by the prettiest name she has heard, Chrysanthemum"
