Weird, yet poorly known animals?
What are the wierdest animals you've heard of that don't get the big press, no one has heard of them? I have two examples to start: The vampire finch (a small bird that pecks at blue footed boobies then drinks the drawn blood) http://www.avianweb.com/vampirefinches.html The hunting cone snails. (Snails that catch and eat fish and other snails) http://s133.photobucket.com/albums/q60/hellothamizha/Videos/?action=view¤t=csnail_movie.flv Remember these guys get no press! everyone's heard of Pandas and platypusses. It was very difficult to find a pic of the finch. Include a link with a picture and don't repeat an answer. limit yourself to one or two. Thanks,

- Capybara - the had one on Zaboomafoo - this very cool big pig like creature that swims! Very cool!
- El coquí.........a small frog from Puerto Rico. It is now drawing attention since some managed their way to Hawaii, where it has become a pest. In Puerto Rico, though, it is in the verge of extinction and it is a national symbol.
- Any deep sea stuff......Hatchet fish, Angler fish etc. They display bioluminescence and can't be studied in detail because they can't survive outside the deep sea. It's weird how an animal can survive at near 0 temp and thousands of pounds of pressure that would completely crush any other thing
- I would say the Deep-sea vampire squid. The behaviors of these creatures are poorly documented, since animals are often damaged during capture and survive for no more than about two months in aquarium. An artificial environment makes reliable observation of non-defensive behavior difficult. Development of these creatures are so poorly known that there are only hypothesis to confirm these squid capabilities in the deep sea. Habitat and adaptions provide inadequate information, the same with the physical description of the vampire squid provide little information. Heck, even the picture of the squid aren't all realistic
