Is it a civilians place to judge the actions of soldiers??
I think it's really weird that we see all these comments about soldiers being sick and being judged for everything they are doing in Iraq. The only people that can judge them are the people that have been there and experienced the fear of death EVERY DAY! Being in a combat situation takes a toll on your mental well being. I'm not even in Iraq and I can tell the changes in my loved one. PTSD is VERY real, and so are the actions that follow. Do all of you all that criticize know what it's like to see a person with their arms and legs blown off and still alive knowing that they are going to die?! War is not the picture that the news makes it to be. They are not just words. REAL people die horrible HORRIBLE deaths. Everyone wants to stand up for the Iraqis...well I say forget them. They can behead innocent people and we get slammed for pics? SCREW that! THIS IS WAR! I DO know that the government is run by civilians! Hence my point....also who's to say that Iraqi's lives are worth more than soldiers? For some reason Americans don't value American life. Who give a fuck if a soldier dies right? Just because someone signs up for the military doesn't mean that they should expect death. I understand that children are dying, it's really sad, but writing that I'm in favor of killing children is an ignorant thing to say. I feel for their families as well as ours. I walk around BAMC and see all the badly burned soldiers, once young vibrant soldiers being spoon fed and not only in physical pain, but emotional. It breaks my heart. My bf called me the other day to tell me that one of his friends died...one that I met. He was only 20. What about him huh? Those who have family members in OIF and OEF know what I am talking about to those who don't you will never understand.

- Yes honey - THIS IS WAR.An war that americans started for no reason,so take what comes with it and suck it up!I doubt anybody will be complaining if americans didn't pretend to be so humane and didn't pretend to be there for the freedom of Iraqis.
- that why i say that ALL congress people should be veterans!! no non serving civilian could be elected to congress if it was up to me, so that way went they would comment they would know what the hell they are talking about! you don't have a guy from the street go into a hospital emergency room or operating room and orders how to do things do you? same thing here! how can plain non prior military service civilians be in charge of military decisions without having a clue what it is like?
- Forget the Iraqis? Then why are we there? 99% of Americans support our troops, but our mission is to stabilize Iraq and help them to establish a government that represents all citizens. I was in a real war as a young marine in a place far far away with funny sounding names and people in black pajamas. I know the face of war. We need to support our troops, and we need to penalize those few that step over the line. They are hurting the cause and give a black eye to those who are doing the right thing.
- A whole lot more REAL CIVILIANS, many of them children, that have died HORRIBLE deaths. The soldiers volunteered...the CHILDREN didn't. Anyone who thinks the USA is justified destroying a country neighborhood by neighborhood needs to watch a lot less Fox News Channel. As for the PTSD...yeah I imagine killing women and children would give you a guilty conscious...AS IT SHOULD. Maybe the recruiter should tell people about that..."Hey you're going to be asked to grind a couple of hundred thousand people into sausage...are you OK with that?" Aw too bad about the young marauders in green...burned to a crisp eh? Well I guess WAR IS HELL...bummer. Guess what...if they hadn't VOLUNTEERED like dumb a$$es they wouldn't have got fried. They should have said NO THANKS and gone surfing or something. What if the had a war and nobody came? ENOUGH OF THIS STUPID BS ALREADY.
- I understand totally where you are coming from. My husband came back from his second tour in Iraq with PTSD, and neither of us will be the same because of this war. I understand your frustration with what people are saying, and doing. But it will never change. No they don't understand, I used to hate it when people used to say that they understand, because unless you are in the situation yourself, you don't know S**T! BUT, they are fighting for the USA and fro Americans, and that is one great things about our country is freedom of speech. Except that these things won't change, don;t waste your energy on it. And focus on the positive. I will pray for you and your loved one, whom fought for our country, thank you for everything. Good Luck, with the PTSD. It is extremely frustrating, and me and my husband are divorced not because he came back a different man. I hope you will handle things better than we did. I hope he/she is talking to someone about this. That was our worst mistake.
- I understand your pain. You are a survivor and that is why you will stand strong for your loved ones. You will bring comfort to those who need it. I will say no war is good war. I hope most people just want peace.
- If REAL veterans ran the country we would never have occupied Iraq in the first place. Saddam could have been taken out without ever putting a boot on the ground.
- I think because a lot of people have thier judgement clouded over thier hatred for George Bush. They can't understand or get it throught thier thick heads that the servicemember can only do what he is told to do, that they are not in the buisness of policymaking. Then they like to say that the troops are killing civilians on purpose etc...when they ahve absolutely no clue what it's like to get shot at. Gone are the days were we fight on front lines...now you have to fight a enemy that can blend in with the population instantly. If that isn't a recipe for disaster, I don't know what is. But, keep blaming the troops! It's all thier fault! They just don't know what it's like....
- Well according to the Constitution of the United States the military is under the direction of a civilian force...the executive branch of the United States government. Besides you obviously not understanding how our government works........... have you considered that those in favor of removing the troops from an illegal, unconstitutional war based on lies...have you ever considered that those not wanting our soldiers to participate in the oil grab...are in fact supporting the troops. And have you considered that more than 600,000 Iraqi children have died from our sanctions and weapons since 1991. Are you aware that we have killed more Iraqi children than the Nazi killed Jewish children in almost the same amount of years. Why are you so quick to dehumanize the Iraqi people. Why are you in favor of killing children. What kind of people are in favor of making war on children. What propaganda can you throw up to neutralize 600,000 dead children. Where is your sense of human decency ? You are very unAmerican in your thinking. If you are a young person I hope you strive to increase your knowledge and understanding of the truth....All knowledge is good
- you know of it but have you really seen it, i mean see things as it happens i have been in several of those places in my life of a civilian and believe it their is no field day of a gin shot victim, no field day to see a child run over and its brains acted as a cannon when the mom lost contact and guard over that child, no field day seeing a person run over and die on sight, no field day to see a family threatened with a gun or knife, these are just a few things of city life, not just in wars, seeing your owns child deteriorated body when dead and you sit their and thank it only happens in war I'm very sorry but all the above has happen to me, civilian and security guard seeing people knifed blood pouring out, sit by the bed side of a shot victim they were waiting for him to die or live please look around you smell the roses if you have never seen these things i can truly say you were not their.
- member89 are you retarted? this war was not started for "no reason" as you put it....... are you that freakin pro liberal that you say this war was started for no reason. Are 3000 innocent american deaths reason enough to go to war? you are completely naive and have no idea what you are talking about.
- The military is run by civilians. It's all under civilian control. Would you want a Military General who is mad to be in charge of the military? I think not!!
- That is why many want our soldiers out of Iraq asap. The longer these same troops have to keep going back over and over, the more apt these soldiers are to snap. Who in their right mind could blame them? If we are to stay there much longer, our military is going to have to be increased so the deployments are not repeated and lengthened. This was a very poorly planned endeavor. Who could argue with that? I believe most of the people who make those kind of comments are very young and don't really understand nor can they imagine being in the middle of this type of situation.
- As a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom I understand your point and where you are coming from. However, I believe that a healthy democracy involves the input from all the citizens. I believe all each voice and each vote from each citizen is important and nessecary for a functioning democracy. I cannot imagine fighting for an America that would restrict the ability of its citizens to exercise their Freedom of Speech.
- Well I was agreeing with you up until you said forget the Iraqis. Forget the Iraqis? Are you outta your f*cking mind?! Do you think PTSD affects only people in American uniforms? Or do you think that people with brown skin arent human???? Iraq has lost at least 60,000 civilians in this war! Those people had lives, dreams, hopes, fathers, mothers and kids! We had no right to invade their country and now, after we've destroyed their entire infrastructure and their entire society, you have the sheer arrogance to say forget them??!!! Youll have to excuse me, but who the fuck do you think you are to make judgement calls on what human life matters and what human life doesnt?? All human life is equally precious and that you would even think of saying something like that is disgusting! Think if some country invaded the USA and occupied it. How the hell would you feel? 80% of Iraqis want us out of there and we have no business being there to begin with! We should get the hell out now and let them solve their problems their way! Not try to force them into doing things our way.
- I may not support the war and all the damage that has been caused but I do support the military. My husband is over there right now so I understand how it feels to not be around him. As for the Iraqis I agree. If they would get their shit straight then we could bring our loved ones home. As for the people being judged...well all I can say about that is its a war! People die. If they would get their shit straight over there and stop putting their kids out on the front lines with guns and making those soliders choose between the kids death or theirs then we wouldnt have those kids dying by us. Its a shame if u really think about it. I mean what are OUR loved ones dying for anyways? What is the whole damn purpose of us still being there?
- No. Only when they get out of line.
