My Funny Picture

flat panel tv question which to buy?

I’m going to be purchasing a flat screen TV this week and need some opinions. I have my search narrowed down to 2 TV’s. Philips 50" Plasma HDTV (50PFP5332D/37) 720p (1366 x 768) resolution • NTSC/ATSC/QAM tuners • Widescreen (16:9) aspect ratio • 10,000:1 contrast ratio • 2 HDMI inputs • Virtual Dolby® Surround Or Polaroid 46" LCD HDTV (4641-TLXB) • 1080p (1920 x 1080) resolution • NTSC/ATSC tuners • Widescreen (16:9) • 1000:1 contrast ratio • 2 HDMI inputs • Universal remote control Which will display a better picture? I will be using the TV for gaming mostly but also watch a lot of hd dvd’s. The plasma has a much better contrast ratio but its 720p compared to 1080p on the LCD. The price is about the same for both 1,497 for the Phillips & 1,398 for the Polaroid. I’m not sure what the refresh rate on either is though, I couldn’t find it on the net. Any input would be greatly appreciated

  1. Go with 1080 p with both tuners. I got a cheap 1080 i with both tuners much better than my buddies expensive 720p much much better I got the olivia 537H from Target check it out
  2. second one is better
  3. I would go with the Philips the 10,000:1 contrast ratio is awesome for GAMING:)
  4. http://www.televisions.com
  5. My opinion is neither one of these. For one the plasma will have major burn in issues when playing games. Secondly the LCD is a Polaroid. Neither one of these brands is very good. If you are looking for a good tv you can use for gaming I would go with a Sony, Pioneer, or Toshiba LCD.
  6. 1. Better brand - Philips 50" Plasma HDTV (50PFP5332D/37) - larger screen, nice 2. 720p (1366 x 768) resolution - lower resolution, bummer 3. NTSC/ATSC/QAM tuners - ready for analog over the air or cable, digital over the air (SDTV & HDTV) and digital/HD cable without a cable box (if allowed by the cable company - may require a cable card if that is an option for the set) 4. Widescreen (16:9) aspect ratio - nice 5. 10,000:1 contrast ratio - GOOD 6. Excellent - 2 HDMI inputs 7. Excellent - Virtual Dolby® Surround Or 1. Polaroid 46" LCD HDTV (4641-TLXB) - Smaller size, cheaper brand 2. Better resolution - 1080p (1920 x 1080) resolution 3. NTSC/ATSC tuners - no digital/HD cable without a cable box 4. GOOD - Widescreen (16:9) 5. This is not impressive compared to the specs of the TV above - 1000:1 contrast ratio 6. Excellent - 2 HDMI inputs 7. A plus but does not offset drawbacks - Universal remote control - these can be cheap or even more feature packed than the one you will get with this set
