Can a display picture in the msn messenger send your compu a virus?

Can a computer be infected just by chatting? can the display pictures have virus?

1. If your chatting on msn messenger and there is a display picture there, no it cannot give you a virus. But if you are sent a file and accept to recieve it, that can contain a virus, and through that is gives people access to your ip address and then they would be able to get into your computer.
2. It depends on your current windows version and patch level, GDI+ had a known bug that if you received a particular modified JPG it caused data overflow, the progam then would start executing virus code without you even know, yup that's right there was a time where JPG could contain virus code, MS did fix this security hole some time ago.
